Dr. Corbett's degrees are in cognitive psychology and his expertise is in
cognitive models of problem solving and in the empirical evaluation of
computer environments. He has conducted extensive empirical evaluations of
students learning programming and mathematics with intelligent computer
tutors. More generally he has supervised graduate student evaluations of
data analysis, programming, spreadsheet and authoring environments. Dr.
Corbett is a frequent participant in workshops that define national and
international educational technology research agenda. In 2000 he was
awarded an Allen Newell Medal for Research Excellence by the CMU School of
Computer Science.
